Mother Nature Doesn't Always Cooperate. Your Editing Can.

Every fall photographer knows this feeling.

You plan the trip months in advance.

You check the forecast.
You drive two hours... or hike five miles in.

And when you get there?
Still green. Or just pre-peak.

You come home with images that don't match what you saw in your head.

And you know you won't be going back anytime soon.

Here's what most photographers do at that point.

They settle.

They open the image, do their standard edit, and accept that it's just not the fall photo they wanted.

Here's what this system lets you do instead.

Transform green foliage into vibrant autumn colors.

Bring out colors that were almost there... but not quite.

Cut through haze.
Balance blown skies.
Shape the light the way you saw it.

Not by guessing with sliders.

By applying the right editing technique for the situation, following a proven workflow, and practicing on seven real images until the whole thing clicks.

That's the Ultimate Fall Editing System.

The One System That Turns Any
Fall Photo Into the One You Envisioned

{

This system works because it solves three separate problems at once.

Most photographers only have one.

A preset pack.
Or a tutorial.
Or a workflow tip.

None of them alone gets you to the photo you envisioned.

These three together do.

75+ AI presets built for every fall situation you'll face… green foliage, semi-peak, full peak, valleys, dramatic skies, color tints.

A proven workflow that gives every edit a direction before you open a single image.

Seven real projects that turn what you've learned into something you've actually done.

Here's what that looks like in practice...

“Love these Fall Color AI Presets… I can do so much with them. Thank you so much for making these. These have helped out a lot this year due to the crazy weather here in VA. The leaves are normally already changed…. And they are just starting to change just now. TODAY it was 87 degrees… Crazy… Thanks so much again…”

When Mother Nature gives you green instead of Peak Fall colors...

A couple of years ago, my wife, daughter, and I took an end-of-summer trip to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

On our first day, we set out on a cruise of Lake Superior to explore the cliffs and stunning landscapes.

As we made our way back during Golden Hour, I spotted some birch trees clinging to the edge of a cliff.

At the time, I didn’t think much of it, but weeks later, I found the green leaves boring.

So, I started with my 'Base 03 | Green' AI preset.

Then, I painted in with my Burnt Umbra preset to get the vibrant fall colors I envisioned, bringing the scene to life!

Edit like a pro and master tough exposures fast with my AI presets

At sunrise in early October, I positioned myself at the edge of the gorge to capture the stunning view of the Genesee River below, framed by the cliff and the vibrant trees on the opposite side.

To preserve the sky’s detail, I exposed for it, which left the gorge underexposed.

Using my 'Fall Base | Valley 01' AI preset, I quickly brightened the dark gorge revealing all the details.

I followed up with my 'Dramatic Sky 02' AI preset to balance out the sky’s exposure and enhancing the clouds and color, bringing the entire scene to life in just a few clicks.

Edit your fall scene without having to revisit for peak colors

For over 20 years, we’ve camped, hiked, and visited Letchworth State Park with our kids.

Every year, we promised ourselves we’d return to witness the full splendor of the park’s fall colors.

But, year after year, life got in the way—until a few years ago.

This photo captures the view just above the largest of the park’s three waterfalls, where mist filled the air.

The haze created a low-contrast image, and the fall colors weren’t quite at their peak.

Using my 'Base 07 | Semi-Peak' AI preset, I cut through the mist and set the foundation to paint on the vibrant fall colors I had envisioned, bringing the scene to life just as I imagined...

...without the need to come back a days or weeks later!
The image below is of the waterfall I was standing near (previous image), and it highlights its natural beauty.

However, I was disappointed in the lack of fall colors.

So, I started with my 'Fall Base | Peak 07' AI preset to set the stage.

After that, I applied my Pumpkin Orange, Red Apple, and Burnt Umber presets to create the effect I was striving for.

Edit your fall scene without having to revisit for peak colors

One of the things I dislike about some Neutral Density (ND) filters is the strong color tint they can add to your image, often a harsh green hue.

For this waterfall photo, I used a 10-stop ND filter from an old Chinese brand (which I’ve since tossed out) that left an overpowering green tint, completely destroying the fall landscape.

Thankfully, it was a quick fix using my 'Tint | Green' AI preset.

I then finished the edit with my Burnt Umber, Sunglow Yellow, and Autumn Red AI presets to bring the fall colors back to life.

How to avoid over-editing + know when you're done...

One of the most common pitfalls I see with my students... one that I even catch myself falling into sometimes... is over-editing.

It’s so easy to get carried away, but how do you know when you’ve crossed that line?

And more importantly, how do you know when your edit is truly finished?

Inside, with the bonus photo editing projects, I’ll share pro tips to help you find that perfect balance and confidently know when your photo is just right.

Perfect for photographers of all genres looking to enhance their fall photos...

During its fall migration from Ontario, Canada, across the Great Lakes, I captured this Ruby-throated Hummingbird on its journey to warmer climates.

The biggest challenge was...

...the fall colors hadn’t arrived yet, and I had slightly underexposed the shot to preserve the detail in its feathers.

To bring the hummingbird back to life, I first enhanced its brightness using the 'Subject Brighter 02' AI preset.

Then, I laid the foundation for the green to fall transformation with my 'Fall Base | Green 10' AI preset.

I finished the transformation with my Burnt Umber color brush preset to transform the green background into rich autumn hues, creating the perfect seasonal setting for this stunning creature.

fall photo editing presetsTrying to schedule a fall photoshoot with my daughter... let alone clients... is almost impossible.

I’m sure you can relate!

Last year, the only time our schedules aligned was before the fall colors arrived.

For this edit, I started by applying the 'Fall Base | Green 04' AI preset.

Becuase she was a bit underexposed I had to use the 'Subject Brighter 01' AI preset to fix it and used the 'White Balance | Warmer | 5400' AI preset to, well, warm up the overall image. Then, I painted on my desired fall colors with my Burnt Umber, Dark Orange, and Red Apple presets to create the autumn look we were missing.

Similarly, for a client who also wanted fall colors, my schedule was fully booked, and we had to shoot before the fall colors arrived.

To transform the green foliage, I applied my 'Fall Base | Green 04' AI preset, followed by my Pumpkin Orange and Caramel Leaves presets to achieve the vibrant autumn look they were hoping for.
This is another shot from our trip to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Unsure if I’d have a chance to return later in the season, I used my 'Base | Green 03' AI preset to set the stage for transforming the greens into peak fall colors.

To bring the scene to life, I applied the Crimson Red, Canary Yellow, Amber Leaves, and Burnt Umber color brush presets, creating the vibrant autumn hues I was after.

For the finishing touches, I enhanced the sky using the 'Dramatic Sky 03' preset and applied some dodging and burning to bring out the details above and below the lake (a technique you’ll learn in Bonus 03).

As luck would have it... or rather, after rearranging my schedule... I found myself back in the U.P. two months later!

Unfortunately, Mother Nature still wasn’t ready to show off the fall colors I was hoping for.

This particular cliff was a good 5-mile hike from the parking area, but the trek was worth it.

Even though the colors weren’t at their peak, I knew Lightroom Classic could help me fulfill my creative vision.

I started with the 'Base | Green 09' AI preset to set the foundation.

Then, with a few strokes of the Red Apple, Golden Leaves, Pumpkin Orange, and Autumn Red presets, I transformed the green to full peak fall colors...

...which meant I didn't have to go back again the following week or two!

The Checklist That Means Nothing Gets Forgotten and You Always Know When You're Done

You've finished editing.

Or have you?

Did you check the clipping indicators?

Did you do your retouching before applying the color brushes?

Did you take a final look at the before and after?

Without a checklist, these steps happen when you remember them... which means sometimes they don't happen at all.

This checklist puts every step of the fall editing workflow in the right order so you move through your edit with confidence... and finish it knowing you didn't skip anything.

Because "I think I'm done" and "I know I'm done" are two very different feelings.
This checklist will guide you step-by-step, ensuring consistent results every time while speeding up your workflow.
